Versova Bandra Sea Link – Coastal Connectivity in Mumbai

“Versova Bandra Sea Link (VBSL), is an upcoming Cable-stayed second Sea link bridge connecting to suburban Bandra and Versova in western suburban of Mumbai. Bandra is already sea linked to Worli. Versova Bandra Sea Link was proposed in 2012 with approvals etc in 2016 and is expected to start in 2018 to get ready around 2021-2022. Latest updates being the extension of this second sea link till Virar via Coastal route with much appreciation from Virar vasai people. Coastal road project faced many problems from Activists, Koliwadas, Mangroves savers coming in the projected route, Yet it is surely to be seen in coming future..”

Updates April 2018 : The much awaited coastal project’s connectivity from Bandra to Versova is likely to be extended till Virar. Although there are more of positive if this thought is finally approved and gradually work starts. Reason being, Virar Vasai belt is much now a integral part of Mumbai city as a huge population recently migrated there for cheaper stay options and regularly travel by local trains to reach south Mumbai and suburban for their job & business.

It takes 10 Km from Virar station to reach National Highway and another 2 hours to reach City by road. There is no alternative to crowded local trains to meet these 2 end points. Bandra-Versova-Virar coastal route will not be less than a blessing to these people.

Updates June 2017 : (Versova Bandra Sea Link) finally gears up to start its work by November of this year 2017. This sea link 2 will be near or more double the size of Sea link 1 (5.6 Km) which is 11.8 Km.

Entry & Exit Points will be Otter’s Club (Bandra), Bandra, Koliwada location in Andheri Juhu, Versova Nana Nani Park. More details will be updated as and when received.

After the success of Bandra Worli Sea Link another proposal was put forward to state government which will help De-Congest the S V Road traffic and help commute faster.

This Sea Link 2 will connect Bandra sea link near Reclamation and will end somewhere at Versova Beach. Major junctions of this routed sea bridge will be Jogger’s park within Bandra location and next being Juhu koliwada, which falls between Santacruz and Vile-parle at coastal side of city. Not sure on if any new Junctions will connect Bandra Versova Sea Link or are changes in current plans, But will keep updating this page.

We detailed the tentative length of the sea link as 9 Km, But the exact as declared before in few leading newspapers was 9.3 kilometres as per project reported, and few places shows as 10 Km.

In 2014, Two bidders have shown interest in developing this sea link and are expecting a Gap Funding of about 20% without which they may loose interest and the plans of development can get tougher considering no local private giants taking interest already. Alternative motto of helping divide traffic of SV Road and Western Express Highway apart from Versova Sea link is a parallel coastal road, State has yet not finalized on one of these two options. Both ends are highly populated with commercial dominance and major traffic along most junctions of S V Road and Highway. The locations of Bandra and Andheri Versova has many tourist attractions, Beaches and Malls which makes it obvious to pull over more traffic and has the most reasons to build another sea link or a road along the coasts. Overall cost of this project seems to cross 5000 crores and will possibly have 6 lanes of road which is really a good news and first of its kind in Mumbai.
