About Kala Ghoda Festival Of Arts
Its almost 14 years now, the foundation of Kala Ghoda at Fort with this famous festival of Mumbai being celebrated. People sometimes gets confused with the name, So why named Kala Ghoda ? and the small historic story behind this festival name is that when Mumbai was known as ‘Bombay’ which is decades ago, in this area of fort, south of Mumbai, their was a huge statue of king Edward 8 on a dark black horse (which is called ‘Kala Ghoda’ in Hindi language), now since at that time their was no huge development and street names with sign boards, the locals in Bombay city started knowing this area as pointing towards that Black horse. And since then the location was called ‘kala Ghoda’ which is now officially used in Mumbai.
Now as this moved on, since 1999 the association and commitee members who has this idea of having the biggest art festival of India in Mumbai, named it accordingly. This art festival is a stage for talents for all those youth who specialize or want to get a head start in various fields of Art and related sectors like Music, Dance and Literature, Film or visual or street art are all welcomed to perform and show the unique art work which is appreciated by thousands and lacs of people in Mumbai and internationally, for which they specially visit Mumbai.
Since Kala ghoda’s rampart row location is a silence zone, and few residents have complaints against the festival and disturbance related, this year 2012 festival faced some hurdles, and so are they asking people on thier website about continuing or not in future.
