More then a century old, this Victorian Gothic Grade 2A Mumbai Heritage building is a unique city attraction with panoramic view of South Mumbai at the height of 255 Feet, from outer gallery of building. Lets check what’s inside BMC headquarters as attraction to attract visitors and more about charges and timings which possibly during public / Bank HOLIDAYS only..”
Heritage Building Attractions
Every one who have visited CST knows that the outer view of Municipal Corporation headquarters structure is as beautiful and classic till date which has many reasons being listed by ‘Mumbai Heritage Conservation Committee’. Frederick Willam Stevens, the same British architect who build the CST building located exactly opposite this structure has brilliantly created this architectural monument of city in 1865 under observation of Arthur Crawford, the then municipal commissioner of Mumbai. This building has never opened its door for public since then and after about 125 years, it may be listed under Mumbai Darshan and Attractions list, Or at least the bloggers like me will surely count it as a tourist spot near CST, to be visited once to know how beautiful Mumbai was and is.
So what’s inside this multi-domed looking BMC Headquarters structure to see and visit that will attract public ? Among other things, what i feel will be the best attraction of this building tour will be the panoramic view of Mumbai at the height of 255 Feet, from the top of building gallery at the outer ends. Till date the view was possible by BMC staff person (Mr. Arvind Vichare) who goes twice on duty to host & pull down our flag. The lucky person will share this Headquarters panoramic view to Mumbaikar’s and other tourist public visiting.
Another beautiful view is of Azad Maidan (Open Ground), the open green grass and brown mud with youth playing cricket and other games. Peep behind the ground and you can also see those skylines of Malabar Hills, BSE Building and our iconic Wankhede Stadium glimpse.
Exactly down the Headquarters building one can see Mumbai traffic with bus, taxi and vehicles moving around the traffic signal junction, and the unseen beautiful Aerial view of Mumbai. CST station is awesome with the DOCKs behind. Feel the breeze of south Mumbai from this BMC building with multiple view and attractions. Well if you recently heard about the CST Heritage building tour, its just the same i mentioned.
Inside Tour Of BMC Building
Feel the historic Malad stoned British architect inside BMC Headquarters building’s fifth floor gallery. The heritage was currently under restoration work since 2011 and was possibly going to open by 2012, Yet at last its going to open in a month time since this post. The huge beautiful DOME stricture from inside will give some nostalgic feeling to our senior citizens who have already seen this golden era of Mumbai. The Gold and Green colour plated artwork around dome is to be seen. Its nothing less then and rajwadi feel (King’d Palace).
To reach this 5th floor gallery, staircase and elevator (goes to second floor) are available. Once need to walk up to fifth floor to reach this gallery after, and for that panoramic view of south Mumbai which is limited to 6 person at a time due to limited gallery space, one needs to go further via little staircase.
Public Tourist Timings and Charges
The exact timings and charges are yet to be announced by Municipal Corporation authorities. Yet it is said that the Gallery will be open during Public Holiday’s only for limited timings. We will update this space as soon we get more details about entry fees and timings.
