“We already read about how Diwali is celebrated in Mumbai with some videos, and now its time to list some best places to do Diwali related shopping. Their might be more to add to this shopping places list, i am just trying to help those who are new or unknown and looking for places to purchase Diwali related things like Clothing (Saree & Dresses), Lighting and Lantern (Kandil and Torans etc), Gift items, Crackers. Also listed some special shops to purchase sweets, Rangoli Material, Decoration stuff, Things for Chopda Puja and more in Mumbai..”
Diwali Shopping List and Best Places to Buy
Lighting and Lantern (Kandil, Toran etc) : Lohar chawl is the best market place in South Mumbai to get varieties of decorative stylish lighting that will enlighten your home, Kandils (Lantern) and those series of Torans as it is called in Hindi. Lohar Chawl is a multi-lane place located opposite Crawford market (Marine Lines). It has many 4 lanes junctions with small and big electronic shops that sells Diwali and other related products of regular use. Particularly during Diwali festive season about 15 to 20 days before only purchasing can be done here at more cheaper rates with more varieties on display and sale. Yes, bargain is sure possible if you buy more then one lighting products.
Another place to list is Dadar west market near kabutar khana which are specialized for selling Toran Light products. Although in this case Bhuleshwar is not special for electrical products but if you are around, Just peep and one might see few shops here too. Of course local shops at every station sells all this products, Yet Lohar chawl gives cheapest deals with more to select from. Those local dealers around Mumbai visit Lohar Chawl only to sell same products of Rs.350/- toran at Rs.550/- and earn handsome margin (just an example).
Diwali Sweets Special : If you are one who likes the Gujarati & jain special sweet called ‘Mohan Thal’ then Jain derasars (temples) around Mumbai are best to get from. Yet crawford market and other famous sweets shops like like MM Mithaiwala at Malad, Aadharsh in south Mumbai, Panshikar at Dadar and if i am not mistaken ‘Mahila Griha udyog’ in Mumbai are best to get you sweets from specially for Diwali season.
Diwali Gift Items : If you want a hassle free shopping place to get your Diwali gifts for your near and dears or also for Corporate gifting, Just head yourself at places like Big Bazaar, Hyper City (Malad Goregaon Link Road), Dmart Shopping and you will get the best deals here. Fresh gift products in bulk or single in cheaper cost with free packing etc. Be it Sweets, Chocolates, Dry Fruits or anything else this places are best to buy in city. By the way, if you ask me what should we gift during Diwali ? then my answer will be Chocolates or Dry Fruit Boxes, as very few packed sweets like Haldiram’s are ideal to give as Diwali gift. Sweets are not bad for gifting but as one knows when their is a sudden 10 days demand, the quality of milk used may be compromised and definitely Dry Fruits and Chocolates are liked by more compared to sweets which are already shares by neighbours. If sweets like Kaju katli are the idle gift preferred by you, Better head to your known shop, taste the sample and get it packed.
Crackers : South Mumbai’s Mohammed Ali Road is known for Crackers, But that’s useful for those who do not travel by Local trains, So for masses who travel via local trains its better purchase it locally as carrying crackers is restricted and dangerous in local trains. My extra words towards crackers will be ‘Why Spend On Crackers ?’, During inflation time every penny is important, spend it on other things, although i do understand the fun and feeling of those kids and children who burst crackers totally unaware and careless about the so called INFLATION.
Hello !! I am one of you Mumbaikar, Truly Indian and i request you to boycott Chinese Crackers and other Goods.
Diwali Decorative : For electrical like lightings, Colourful led bulb series, candils etc head towards Lohar Chawl Electrical Market in South Mumbai. For other stuff like Diyas, Stickers, Colors for Rangoli and more locations like Crawford Market, Sheikh Memon street exactly opposite Crawford market, Bhuleshwar Market, Malad Natraj Market, Borivali S V Road near Station in Suburban stations.
Decoration Materials etc : Diwali is also a festival of colors, Most of the homes get their colorful Rangoli done at door steps and at building entrance. Rangoli Materials like Colors and those plastic products to draw rangoli, Other stuff like stickers and other decoration things which is used at most homes in Mumbai, including Diyas can be purchase at famous places like Dadar, Crawford Market, Bhuleshwar, Malad Natraj Market Location and Old Municipal Market, Borivali West Near station.
Shopping Those Special Festival Clothings : To keep it short, best places for Diwali clothing in Subrub are Malad’s famous Natraj Market, Various Mega Saree and Dress Showrooms at Dadar (West), Bhuleshwar and Kalbadevi area in south Mumbai gets you the best of deals for ready made dresses and specially saree shopping.
Chopda Poojan (Puja) Material : Go towards Princess street (Marine Lines) which is an ideal location for all type of Chopda Puja Materials and also for paper and related products, Its quite near to Lohar Chawl. Most of the retailers purchase in bulk from this location as almost every other local business man and retail shop (Gujarati, Jain and Marwari community) people do Chopra Puja (Laxmi Puja) on the day of Diwali Laxmi Pooja with rituals etc.
