“Getting deeper into a special ladies shopping destination at Malad which is cheaper compared to malls around when it comes to the products it sells. Natraj market is about 5 to 6 decades older and is a regular shopping market with some specialties, a shopping destination of locals staying in and around Malad and higher middle class people of Mumbai..”

Market Specialty

Being one of the oldest shopping destination near Malad station exactly opposite the mall, Natraj market has always been fist choice when it comes to shopping cosmetics, Punjabi salwar kameez, Dress Materials and Saree. Within locals this market is also referred as natraj shopping, the building is partially a residential complex with ground floor completely occupied as commercial shops. Other shopping items available for shopping here are Gold, Silver and Artificial Jewellery, Steel and Other clay vessels, Cushions and curtains, Ladies handbags, Under garments and more.

Among all other shopping products Sarees and Cosmetics is what one can find the most in varieties and is why in Natraj Shopping is famous for, latest trendy sarees of all types, be it a casual wear, party or wedding collections, best options are available here at comparatively reasonable price. A point to be noted here is that if you are a first timer, don’t get confused with Municipal Market which is also referred as old natraj municipal market, which is again a cheap yet really good shopping option when it comes to ladies products like artificial jewellery, handbags, clothing etc

Shopping Experience

One of the good things about this market is that there are around 5 to 7 entry and exit points with lots of zig zag turns at every corner of shops which helps buyers to hangout and do window shopping if not purchasing to see all latest available products in market which are shown in transparent glass display.

Being famous but very old, natraj market do have some cons, the walkable gulli (lanes) inside are very narrow so need to take care while walking or chances are you will dash someone very easily. Another thing to be noted is that natraj is not centrally air conditioned, every shop has its own air conditioned installed and few even don’t, so the shopping experience during summer will not be so happy. When it comes to toilet facilities it does have but don’t expect something that you see inside malls like infinity and inorbit in malad.

Eateries

Inside the market their is no options for snacks, the only options is nartaj restaurant on first floor. But if you are a street side foodie and like Mumbai’s famous junk available at Khaogalli’s then their is something for you.
when in evening you exit towards S V Road, their is a yummy bhejpuri and panipuri wala along with a Sandwich stall in opposite side and couple of restaurants around, so no worry about food at anytime you plan your shopping around this location.

Reaching Natraj Market

By Train : Get down at Malad Station in west and its just behind the famous Bajrang bali (Lord hanuman) temple. Malad is a station in suburb of western railway routes with next and previous stations being Kandivali and Goregaon.
By Road : From national highway take a turn towards malad, Use the Malad subway and on the left is this market. For those coming from S V Road its just connected, just remember the station road.

When Mumbai was called ‘Bombay’, Mahim was one of those 7 islands that made the city. Since then the major community dominated here are Muslims and Maharashtrians. With time the commercial activities in city between Dadar and Bandra went up in fast pase and as Mahim is between this two station, has grown significantly. Lets understand this location and its small big details like famous residential locations, Attractions, Entertainment options, Schools and Colleges, Hospitals, Emergency contacts, Travel options, Eateries, Road distance and Map, Postal codes and more..”

Attractions

We just detailed above the famous few things that comes up in mind when we talk about mahim location/station. Yet lets understand in more details all the attractions here.

Mahim Dargah / Shrine : Originally called ‘Makhtum Fakih Ali Paru’ shrine, This dargah which is located in West and is very famous for its yearly festival.

St.Micheal’s The Famous Church : At the road junction of west side location, Just 10 minutes from station is this famous Mahim church. Lots of spiritual stories can be found on internet which happened since last many decades. This is one of the oldest church attractions in Mumbai.

Sitladevi Mandir : The Hindi word mandir means Temple, and this is about Hindu Godess sitladevi. Its a beautiful old temple still looking the original on S V Road towards matunga, not much of renovation done since decades and so the beauty of old style temple of Mumbai is in its place. We dont have much information about same and will update soon as we can. Yet the bus stop with name is very famous here.

Mithi Nadi / River : Mahim is a pre-monsoon famous location when it comes to getting into news and newspapers. It is the Mithi Nadi (Also called Mahim Creek River) the heart channel for rain water and waste outlet from Mumbai into the arabian sea. It showed its importance in 2006 rainfall flood havoc. Since then municipal corporation of Mumbai always prepare to keep it clean and in free flow conditions prior to monsoon as for any reasons if this creek is blocked and the waste and rainy water flow is not through towards the sea, the flood is definately possible again during high tides.

MNP : Maharashtra / Mahim Nature Park is a beautiful bird watching attraction of Mumbai. Located near sion dharavi area which connects Mahim East, this small bird century is very natural and a kind of natures magic lying inside the concrete city.

Mahim Fort and Causeway : The fort which is hardly a attraction now was once in a good condition. You must read this small article about why causeway is toll free.

The Mahim Causeway was built between 1841 to 1846 to connect the island to Salsette with Mahim. The Swampy area between the two islands made travel dangerous and thus a need for a causeway arose. The British East India Company, who governed Bombay at that time, refused to fund the project which led lady jeejeebhoy, wife of first baronet Sir Jamsetjee Jeejeebhoy to donate the entire amount of Rs.157000 on the condition that government would not charge a toll for its use. Since then the causeway links the neighbor of Mahim to the south with Bandra to the north.

Next/Second station to Virar, Nalasopara location comes under Vasai Virar Conurbation of Mumbai and governed by Vasai Virar Municipal Corporation, Its a suburb area in North of city. This location is one of the very crowded with recently migrated lower and middle class crowd from south Mumbai with major old building and slum redevelopment recently making them paying high maintenance unaffordable and also from other states/city of India. One of the major reasons of Nalasopara being so crowded is the property and rental cost which is low compared to Virar and Vasai and other parts of city.
As said their are no many entertainment options and special attractions inside Nalasopara, Two major attractions are beaches like Rajori and Kalamb Beach with connecting famous Arnala beach, Another entertainment option being Fun Fiesta Theater in west.
Nalasopara can be categorized into affordable homes with major social and civic amenities now at place, Still the problems like Electricity / Current outage and limited water supply persist in few area. If comparing the real estate cost, they are rising as one might know the Vasai Virar has huge open space and property development is on fast pace, another reasons being the Dahanu Mumbai local trains started improving connectivity beyond locations. One important thing to note is that compared to East, the West area is well planned and developed. Also that few interior locations in nalasopara east which connects virar has illegal residentials, with couple of them already brought down, so be aware if you are planning to own a home and don’t get into those cheap property deal traps.

Yes i must also add that recently some locations which are near to station in east have seen a good developments with reputed builders having their projects in process, well planned with all major facilities. Some of the famous residential locations are in West like Patankar Park, Sri Prastha Complex, Chanakya Nagar etc, after which Nalasopara Gaon starts which connects major 56 villages with Virar vasai location. The hotspot and upcoming residential location is Nalasopara Virar link road with area like IDBI colony. In the East some of the famous locations and places are Raghukul Nagar, Taki Road, Tulinj Road, Vijay Nagar, Radha nagar and Achole road which connects vasai east. For shopping options, their are no major malls like in Mumbai, But shopping bazaars like Dmart in East and Sahakari Bhandar at Shri Prastha below Fun fiesta cinema is a good option. Regular vegetable and fruit markets are very much available near crowded station at both sides.

Eateries

Nalasopara has ample number of Vegetarian and Non-vegetarian restaurants like Hotal Aaram in West, Hotel Manthan Restaurant and Bar which has party hall and overnight stay option, Shabri, Utsav, Food King Restaurant and Ana’s Thai China Chinese Cuisine etc. Street side fast food corners are obviously found at major lanes and junctions selling Refreshments like Tea/Coffee, Mewad ice creams, Chinese bhel and our Mumbai’s famous Vada Pav.

Prabodhankar Thackrey Auditorium : Adjacent to Railway station in West, Famous Auditorium for Gujarati and Marathi Drama (natak), Prabodhan thackey is another entertainment option for Borivali and people around.

Malls : Oldest and Famous mall of borivali is Indraprasth shopping connected to Platform number 7 is still the preferred choice for western outfits and sari etc among locals. Latest mall of Borivali are Moksh Plaza which is opposite on S V Road. Goyal and Thakkar mall are very famous among ladies, Goyal being renovated recently in 2012 as caught fire. Anupam stationery inside thakkar mall is very famous with two branches, another at Moksh plaza for all kind of stationery, Mobile and related, Children and school related products. So if you ever have question on where to shop when in Borivali, the above malls are the perfect destinations. Leading jewellers shops are available like TBZ, Mannubhai, Arena, Kamlesh and few more.

Famous Residential Locations

Borivali has cosmopolitan crowd, still few residential locations are known for majorly staying by a particular community people, Like IC Colony is preferred residential for Christian community, while Yogi Nagar, Chandavarkar Road, Sodawala Lane, Tilak Road, Sumer Nagar and Jairaj Nagar has more of Gujarat’s staying inside. Similarly Magathane and Siddharth Nagar attracts more of Maharashtrian (Marathi) community. While their are many such residential complexes, The most costliest and famous/known once are Saibaba Nagar, Mahavir Nagar Connecting kandivali, Shimpoli and Link Road. New property developments are always at fast pace, and few projects of 2013 are Parinee Adney at IC Colony, Airavath by NL group, Ekta Bhoomi Gardens at Borivali East location and many such more. People prefer staying at the above listed residential locations as they are very well connected to station, market, malls and other civic amenities and with proper travel options and so are they very costly. Property cost which was about Rs.5000/- per Sq.Ft in 2005 to 2007 is anywhere between 10,000 to 20,000 now, So is how we can understand the fast developments of properties at such suburbs. Sad new is that a common middle class hands fall short to reach such skylines now. The rates have already crossed the capacity of common man to buy 2bhk & 3bhk flats in such good locations even after earning a handsome salary from corporates.

Seaplane Attractions and Tourism

A great boost to tours and travel industry of Mumbai, But for initial few months local citizens will sure rush and advance book this adventurous air ride which is really cheap because according to the seaplane company they are merely charging Rs.750 (Approximate United Stated $13) for a air journey starting from Juhu Airport till Nariman Point. That’s a wonderful news for citizens as any cool cab will take equal charges and may take anywhere above 1 hour to reach nariman point by road, where as its will just take 5 to 7 minutes for a seaplane ride.

Adding to Mumbai attractions list, this service will also be a great option during emergency when time is critical and more valuable then anything else. Good news is that the company has already planned to start up with services at famous tourist destinations near Mumbai like Shirdi Temple, Lonavala, Murud Janjira and Bhandardara where water landing facilities are possible (Although the Aircraft is Amphibian). Best part of this aircraft machine (Cessna 208) is that it can land on water as well as land, so the limitations of operating this services at limited location has lowered. Destinations like Lonavala are famous for monsoon and generally people prefer hiring a rental car or travel by train which is a time consuming travel option for those planning one day only picnic. This service can save a great amount of travel time for those who plan to spend a little more. Although details about charges for destinations like Shirdi, Lonavala, Bhandardara etc are not available, It seems that the company giving such lovely service have planned well to reach the mass and possibly rates for same will be not very heavy. The list of such tourist spots may be soon expanded with time.

As detailed above, Maritime has already planned public service at cheapest rate possible for such a great time saving travel option and of course a great adventure joy ride option for those ready to spend Rs.750 per person to enjoy the aircraft ‘Cessna 208′. This great air ride travel option gives a group / family of 9 people to enjoy the ride together at mere cost of Rs.6750/- which is just WOW. With a great aerial view right from Juhu airport till Nariman Point, One can see breathtaking view of bandra worli Sea Link from Top, South Mumbai Skylines and that huge Arabian sea with shinny water, is till date the best and cheapest option.

With such things planned in Mumbai, what i feel is the services may easily start soon and be available for people at and beyond suburbs till far north locations like Virar, as it is well connected to the same Arabian sea with beaches available around for landing. For example, Seaplanes can easily travel from Juhu airport to Borivali Gorai or may be a service directly till Essel World and Water Kingdom theme park, Or till Arnala beach in Virar which have many other tourist attractions around Or till Daman beaches. Hope the best of luck to this seaplane service of Mumbai and cheers to citizen for enjoying air rides.
