Developed in 1838 and renovated again in 1861 and 1863 Colaba Causeway in Mumbai got a good market value in 1844 and became a centre of commerce as cotton exchange(at cotton green) opened and the prices of the land shot up. Then came a time around 1950-51 people started shopping at colaba causeway as it was found as one of the fashions shopping there.

As causeway means (land bridge), colaba causeway became cultural square of Mumbai surrounded with beautiful Regal Cinema and National gallery of Modern Art (NGMA). Causeway footpath has lots of deals for shopping as shopping at colaba causeway is cheap and great, You get trinkets, fashion accessories, colorful stones in varieties and styles. For college crowd it is a trendy shopping footpath place as they enjoy wearing jewelery made up of semi precious stones, woods and other arts. One can also get varieties of fancy bags made of jute, cane and wood purse too, and hey not very costly, just Rs.100 to 300 is all done for such fancy stuff to carry with. What else, the footpath is filled with some antiques, pictures and shoes (typical mojris and chappels) selling at about 300 bucks.

One of the specialities why people enjoy shopping in colaba streets is because of Antique artifact shops spreaded around where people of different nationalities shop for souvenir with woodwork inlaid with ivory, miniture taj mahals, south indian temples paintings, Kashmiri shawls and carpets from Manali and shimla. Other things one can find at colaba is old antique like Gramophones, Porcelain, doorknobs, budles, colored glass lanterns, nautical sextants, telescopes, compass and traditional hookahs. A great place to get pirated cds, dvds and vcds at rs.50 only around foothpath.
