About Pongal Celebration in Mumbai
Pongal is four days harvest festival celebrated mainly in South part of India called Tamil Nadu by tamilians.
This is the only festival which follows the solar calendar and is celebrated on the same day of makar sankranti (i.e on 14th of january every year). As it is a 4 days festival, people celebrate ‘Bogi’ on 13th Of january, next on 14th pf January ‘PONGAL’ following ‘Maattupongal’ on 15th to ‘Thiruvalluvar Day’ on 16th of January every year.
Its a kind of break for farmers in farming season, so its is referred as season of harvest, they worship and do puja to the crops they grow and take a short break. Celebration Food is made up of the first harvest and every one in Community comes together to celebrate.
There are few South Indians who are settled in North of India celebrate this festival bit differently, they only celebrate 2nd day which are 14th makar sankranti and when lohri in north is celebrated, they call it ‘Pongal Sankranti’
Pongal festival is also known by other names like Makar Sankranti, Lohri, Bihu (or) Bohaggiyo Bhishu, Kanumu, Bhogi pongal, Thai Pongal, Famous Poki festival, Hadaga Festival in defferent part of india as Indian culture of celebration.
