Duck Planned in 2009

Few months past August 2009, BEST in association with ‘Creative Concept Pvt Ltd’ planned introducing a special ferry Duck bus, A Amphibious Dark Yellow colour bus which can ride on South Mumbai roads as well as in Arabian Sea around Gateway Of India and Girgaum Chowpatty coastal.

A trial bus was suppose to run between Gateway of India near (Churchgate) till Colaba (South Mumbai) and the time taken by this ride will be approximately 20 minutes. This new public fun land and sea riding amazing bus was suppose to be running on experimental basis for sometime and then will be open to public costing ticket rates per person about 100 to 150 rupees per trip of about 20 Minutes.

The speed of this duck bus is about 50 Kilometre Per Hour on road and about 10 Kilometres Per Hour inside Sea. It is said that the idea of introducing duck bus in Mumbai came to committee from their visit to Toranto which was costing about 1 Crore then. All this was last updated in 2014.

Amphibious Duck Bus Tour

Previous complete plan as detailed above was scrapped and lately in July 2016 again the news about getting a ‘Yellow Duck’ tour started floating with new plans by MTDC (Maharashtra Tourism Department) shaking hands with JNPT (Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust), where JNPT will own and pay for the very first Amphibious craft costing up to 3 Crores. As always the delay happens and the expected first public tour ride, which was suppose to commence around September 2016 was delayed. It is already 2017 and i believe the delay is due to the non-arrival of this special imported duck bus or might be some permissions from Coastal departments.

The concept of touring on land and sea both at a time is not new to Mumbai, Already countries like America and London tour such beautiful yellow craft ferrying and plying tourists and locals for a fun ride being part of city tourism. Those western countries take utmost care about fun and service when it comes to such rides. Operators of duck rides allows getting high on fun by serving Alcohols and playing loud music. Officials in Mumbai tourism department also plans to follow their footsteps and get permissions and give Mumbai citizen equal fun ride with alcohols, beverages and music all allowed and served on duck. I hope no illiberal in city plays hurdles for such plans as the consumption of alcohol is illegal in public places.

Routes of where exactly this bus will ride are not very clear, but as detailed and in news, I believe it will ride south Mumbai roads covering CST railway station, Fort, Mantralaya, Nariman Point, Marine Lines coastal till Girgaum Chowpatty. Authorities were already working to get a Bus Shade at Chowpatty beach. One complete amphibious duck ride will be of 2 hours of which half hour (30 Minutes) will be inside sea, not far from coastal areas like Gateway of India, Colaba, Nariman Point and Chowpatty. If you feel or thinking about the speed of such duck bus, These specially designed buses are not that slow, It has an inbuilt Hydro Jet Engines ideal to speed-up in water and equally on road it will ride at normal speed of average 50 KMPH like any other vehicle. Once the first Duck arrives and public acceptance and tour success is confirmed, more such crafts are planned to be purchased for the services.

Tour timings and charges per person will be detailed as soon the rides are operational. In the mean time you might also like to know about MTDC Mumbai Darshan and Goregaon Filmcity Tour.
