Well Know and Famous for Lord Babulnath ‘Lord Shiva’ father of Lord Ganesha, Among all festivals ‘Mahashivaratri’ is the day of worship for Lord Shiva (Shiv Shambhunath), It is celebrated just one night before day of darkness ‘Amavasya’. This place is Approx 1000/- Feet above Sea Level and one of the very famous and old monuments of Mumbai for Hindus. you will find lots of beggars around this temple as usual for all other temples in Mumbai. Below high court judgement of 1883 shows how the committee and old people were given  temple responsibility during British times.

You can reach this place by taxi/cab from Charni Road Station (West).Its just adjacent to Famous Girgaon/Girgaum Chowpatty and back side of Wilson College. Walking distance is around 20 to 30 mins from Charni Road Station.

This is what is written on walls inside babulnath temple, High Court Judgement in 1883, “The Honourable Mr. Justice Bayley One of the judges of her majesty’s high court of judicature at BOMBAY in suit no 547 of 1880 where in the honourable Mr. John Marriot advocate general at the instance and in relation of shah rajaram balmukandass bhat valji jivraj thucker ghellabhai ladha khutri jivan meghji appellants VS Son Anandrao Sukharam and others respondents the honorable  Mr. Justice bayley decided this suit on the 8th October 1883 and having settled that the temple of shri babulnath and the property connected with it was for the use of  public charity appointed five trustees VIZ Shetty Vulubhdass walji, shett mulji jethawalla, shett chaturbhuj morarji, shett damodhar tapidass, shett rajaram balmookandass, bhatt vallji jewraj in this Mr. Bhaishankar Nanabhai of the firm of messers jefferson bhaishanker and dinsha rendered invaluable assistance this monument of Mumbai was raised in samvat 1946 when the temple was repaired and re-purified or consecrated.”

Speciality of this Hindu Temple

Its the place of Worship for Hindus, lord Shiva is famous for SHIV LING (Genital of Lord Shiva), people pray and Worship it. Everyday people come here to offer water/milk on Shiv ling, His vahan (carrier) is Snake, Load Shiva carries SNAKE around his neck and Pours water from the head. Also believed that he has Third eye in Forehead. Another speciality being the old art work on walls, same old ladders that can be seen in many Bollywood Hindi films since 1980 and in recent time movies like Agneepath of 2012.

This holy place is at walking distance from Charni road railway station (West). As soon you get down, you see the beautiful Chowpatty beach and towards north end of this beach is this temple at hardly 500 meters distance.

So nearest railway station being Charni Road, No need to take taxi.
