Heritage Building Attractions

Every one who has visited or been around CST knows that the outer view of Municipal Corporation headquarters structure is very beautiful and classic piece of structure standing tall and strong till date with many reasons to be listed as Heritage by ‘Mumbai Heritage Conservation Committee’. Frederick Willam Stevens, the British architect who build the CST building, located exactly opposite this structure has brilliantly created this architectural monument of city in 1865 under observation of Arthur Crawford, the then municipal commissioner of Mumbai. Special attraction areas of this building has never opened its door for public since then, But after about 125 years now it is soon going to be listed as one of the important heritage attraction location under ‘Mumbai Darshan and Attractions list’ and me mentioning it as one of the major tourist spot opposite CST railway station, to be visited at least once to know how beautiful Mumbai was and is.

So what is inside this multi-domed looking BMC Headquarters structure to see and visit that will attract public ? Among other things, what i feel will be one of the best attractions of this building tour will be the panoramic view of South Mumbai at the height of 255 Feet from the top of building gallery outer area. Till date the view was restricted and been enjoyed by selected BMC staff person (Mr. Arvind Vichare) who goes twice in a year to host & pull down our flag as required. This lucky person will now share this Headquarters panoramic view to Mumbaikar’s and other tourists.

Another beautiful view is of Azad Maidan (A famous open play ground), the open green grass and brown mud with city youths playing cricket and other outdoor games. A little Peep behind this ground and you see glimpse of skylines of Malabar Hills, BSE Building and our iconic Wankhede Stadium.

The famous known Mumbai traffic is another attraction right below this Headquarters building which can be seen from the top. A place to actually enjoy Mumbai traffic with bus, taxi and other vehicles moving around the traffic signal junction endlessly. And the unseen beautiful Aerial view of Mumbai too. Do not miss the DOCKS view behind CST station. Feel the fresh breeze of south Mumbai open sea at this BMC building enjoying these attractions. Well if you recently heard about the CST Heritage building tour, its just the same i mentioned.

Inside Tour Of This BMC Headquarters Building

Feel the historic Malad stoned British architect inside BMC Headquarters building’s fifth floor gallery. The heritage was under restoration work since 2011 and was possibly going to open by 2012 but for some reasons it didn’t. Finally, it is going to open in a month time since this post. The huge beautiful DOME structure from inside will give some nostalgic feeling to our senior citizens who have already seen and been through the golden era of Mumbai. The Gold and Green colour plated artwork around dome is to be seen. Its nothing less then and rajwadi feel (King’s Palace).

Staircase and elevator (goes to second floor) are available. Then one need to walk up to fifth floor to reach this gallery to enjoy all these view of South Mumbai as detailed above. Entry is limited to 6 person at one time due to limited gallery space area.

Public Tourist Timings and Charges
The exact timings and charges are yet to be announced by Municipal Corporation authorities. Yet it is said that the Gallery will be open during Public Holiday’s only for limited timings. We will update this space as soon we get more details about entry fees and timings.
