This toll-free service, known as Blood On Call (Jeevan Amrut Yojana) by the Maharashtra State Government, ensures that blood will be delivered within an hour. This service is crucial for emergency situations in Mumbai, as well as for reserving blood before surgeries, operations, and other medical procedures.
How 104 Blood On Call Works
Jeevan Amrut Yojana
This blood service operates at the State Level, providing doorstep blood service from approximately 250 licensed and Registered Blood banks classified as ‘Major Blood Banks’, ‘Government’, ‘Red Cross Society’, and Other Private blood banks. The trial and testing of this project took place in Sindhudurg and Satara district, receiving positive feedback. On 7th January 2014, the service was officially launched across Maharashtra State at Sir J J Metropolitan blood bank in Mumbai.
A specialized helpline has been established at Aundh Civil Hospital in Pune, a neighboring city of Mumbai, which is approximately a 2.5-hour drive away. The government has also made arrangements to open an additional 9 blood storage units within the city limits of Mumbai, which will provide greater convenience to the citizens.

Within a span of 6 months, this service has received an overwhelming response, with over 7500 calls received, averaging 50 calls per day. - Dial 104 Toll Free Number which will connect you to Pune Call Center.
- Your details will be taken and the nearest licensed blood bank among 250 registered and authorized banks is called upon for reservation. Their are 31 ‘Major Blood Banks’ and 41 at District level.
- Every district (Example : Thane in Mumbai) has 3 individual bike riders ready to deliver blood bags with 40 km radius city limits. They have a well equipped blood storage icebox fitted on their motor cycle which has required temperature for blood storage.
- You have to pay Rs.450 per bag and transportation charge of Rs.50 for initial 10 km for their service.
