Thrilled to see about 1015 couple’s grant/ mass wedding along with MLA of Virar Nalasopara and Vasai taluka ‘Shri Kshitij Thakur’ at Virar East Chandansar Road (Opposite HDIL office).
Virar in Palghar district is located at far north of Mumbai city and the wedding was on 29th January 2012. This can be said as one of the biggest mass wedding ceremony of the time. Lets see some pictures and details of so many couples getting married at one location.

Why i Say it One Of The Worlds Biggest Mass Wedding ?
Most we heard about mass wedding in India will be about jain community wedding in groups, which is called ‘Samuh Lagan / Lagna’. An approximate number for an example be some 10 to 50 or bit more of couples getting ready to tie a knot with family and friends of as brides and grooms at one single place called ‘Mandap in Hindi’ at a huge open ground or a boundaried location.
Back to Kshitij Thakur wedding at Virar, It has broken all records in Mumbai (Maharashtra) and number rises to 1015 couples from all over Maharashtra, Raigad and Ratnagiri district getting married on a 250 acres of land along with this main couple in focus. Groom Kshitij Thakur (s/o Mr. Hitendra Thakur, former MLA of Virar Vasai Taluka) having their political party called ‘Bahujan Vikas Aaghadi’.
The best thing to know is that couples are from all caste and community. With rituals and method according to their own customs individually everyone is taken care and blessed. Also i can say its the day of blessing for Kshitij and family who celebrates and thanked each and every individual couple and staff member who made this event a success. This couple in thakur family had good charity plans too.
Every individual couple got Gold Chain ‘Mangalsutra’ with cash / cheque amount of Rs.1,00000. That’s not all, They donating whole heartedly all the basic things required at home to starts a family (Day to day needed things). To add more, Educational cost for next two years for their future kids too. Now this is just awesome for all those poor and middle class couples who usually struggle to sum up the amount just to get married and serve properly their family and friends for the occasion.
Main Wedding Attractions and Arrangements
- Some of the known bollywood celebrities attended Kshitij’s mass wedding, To name few are Govinda ‘The beloved name Chichi’, other actors like Milind Gunaji, Aditya Pancholi and our all time favorite comedian and actor Johnny Lever and few others.
- Politicians like ‘Prithviraj Chavan’ were also present during the occasion.
- 250 acres of open land to incorporate 1015 couples and their family members, friends etc.
- Total number of people attending mass wedding including virar locals, couple relatives summed up to few lakhs.
- Huge security and police protection were in place.
- 1250 Kg of cake which was cut by the grant couple of Thakur family, Virar.
- Showering of flowers from helicopter was a grand attraction too.
- A beautiful laser show on such a huge open ground.
- Most of the lanes in Virar seems to be lightened up before few days.
