This beach is relatively clean and less crowded, making it a hidden gem for both locals and tourists. It holds significance for the local East Indian Catholic Koli community as a fishing beach and is also home to the revered ‘Mother Velankanni Church’, which can be reached within just 20 minutes from the railway station. No doubt, It is referred as a mini Goa in Mumbai.

If you’re planning a visit to Uttan beach, here are some details about its attractions, including specialty spots, resorts, hotels, and their contact information. Additionally, we’ll provide you with directions on how to reach this serene destination.”

Speciality of Uttan Beach

This lesser-known beach at Uttan village, near Bhayander station in Mumbai’s North Suburban, offers an isolated coastal experience. If you have a fondness for seafood, this beach is an ideal spot for a day picnic and even a night’s stay at one of the nearby resorts.

Fresh fish such as Prawns, Bombil, Bangara, Pomfret, and Chala fish are caught on a daily basis by local village fishermen from Uttan Beach. These delectable varieties are readily accessible at renowned resorts and restaurants. As you stroll along the coastal roads, you’ll witness the fish being dried on bamboo stick frames, adding to the picturesque scenery.

In the charming hillock town and its surroundings, the prominent koli community thrives with their primary occupation of fishing. It is no surprise that the majority of the village residents, as well as those residing in nearby beach areas such as Gorai, Tarodi, Manori, Morva, Pali, and Dongri, indulge in the delightful combination of fresh fish with Bhakri (a wheat-based delicacy resembling a thick chapati or roti), accompanied by rice or Ghavan.

This adjacent beach, known as ‘Uttan Virgin Beach’, is closely connected to the village and is famously referred to as the Uttan Beach of Bhayander. Unlike its larger counterparts, this beach is smaller and more secluded, making it a perfect getaway with fewer visitors on weekdays.

The locals residing near this beach often call it ‘Velankanni Beach’ due to the presence of the renowned ‘Velankanni Church’ in the surrounding area. This church, also known as ‘Our Lady of Velankanni Shrine’, adds to the charm of the Uttan Virgin Beach.

Not only is Uttan Virgin Beach a picturesque spot, but it is also a popular pilgrimage destination. The Mother Velankanni Church attracts numerous visitors, especially those coming from outside the area. One of the highlights of the beach is the grand statue of Mother Velankanni, which can be reached by climbing around 200 steps. The effort is truly rewarding as it offers a breathtaking aerial view of the beach and the Uttan village, making it a perfect opportunity for some memorable photographs.

The beach at Uttan Village offers a delightful atmosphere with its charming village vibes. You can enjoy a wonderful picnic day here, thanks to the pleasant climate. There are plenty of accommodation options available near the beach, including hotels and resorts. If you prefer a resort stay, Gorai is a great location that is easily accessible and just a short 15 to 20-minute drive away.

Uttan Virgin Beach is a peaceful getaway from the hustle and bustle of the city. It provides a serene environment, free from pollution, noise, and chaos. You might even get a taste of Goa’s tranquility at this beach, as it is surrounded by lush trees and offers ample shade.

As you enter the beach, you’ll notice an old Christian’s Cross structure that symbolizes the crucifixion of Jesus. This structure tells the story of the community at Uttan Beach and the influence of the Portuguese who once ruled Mumbai and Maharashtra.

The beach’s shoreline is truly a haven for relaxation, surrounded by dark rocks and coconut trees that provide a refreshing shade during the summer. If you’re a fan of tranquil, rocky beaches, then this Virgin Beach is the perfect spot for a leisurely stroll.

Now, let’s talk about the food options. Honestly, it’s a paradise for seafood enthusiasts, as this beach is located in a fishermen’s village where the aroma of drying fish fills the air. However, if you happen to be a vegetarian, I wouldn’t recommend staying overnight at the resorts listed.

But don’t worry, even for vegetarians, a day’s picnic with your family is still worth it. Just bring along your favorite vegetable delights and enjoy the picturesque location of this beach, which also boasts a charming little church. It’s like having a slice of Goa right here in Mumbai.

Did you know that there is a charming little lighthouse not too far from the main beach area? It’s situated on a beautiful hilltop and overlooks a quaint seaside town. If you drive ahead for about 20 minutes, you’ll reach Gorai Beach, which is absolutely stunning. If the tides permit, you can even drive your car onto the beach, thanks to its thick, flat sand. This allows you to enjoy both Gorai and Virgin Beaches simultaneously.

The majority of the local fishermen in this area are East Indian Catholic People, who are known for their friendliness and are always open to a chat. Apart from the breathtaking natural beauty of this hillock beach location, one of the highlights is the village trolls. They add an extra touch of charm to this already incredible place, making it a truly memorable experience.

Evenings at this beach are truly delightful, offering a breathtaking view of the sunset that you definitely shouldn’t miss. It’s a serene place that provides photographers with wonderful opportunities to capture the sun’s reflection on the seabed.

When it comes to food options, don’t expect much from the nearby junk food eateries, peddlers, and hawkers. However, you can still enjoy some refreshing crushed ice candies and local fruits. Keep in mind that the Bhayander city area is around 8 to 10 kilometers away from this beach, so the food choices may be limited.

This clean beach has rocky black sand, creating a unique and picturesque setting. The water currents are safe, but it’s always important to keep an eye on your kids and prevent them from entering any of the beaches in Mumbai, including Uttan. It’s wise to listen to and follow the advice of the locals for a pleasant and enjoyable experience.
