Vanrani, The Mini Toy Train Of Borivali National Park

Children are filled with excitement when they see pictures of this train that resembles a jungle safari ride. It is actually a mini safari that takes about 15 minutes inside the Borivali National Park. The train runs on small railway tracks with limited seating capacity and covers a distance of up to 2.5 kilometers. The ride, which used to be yellow but is now green, lasts for about 15 to 20 minutes.

This TATA brand toy train follows a ring route, starting and ending at the same location within the park. Not only children, but adults also love this train ride as it allows them to enjoy the greenery and biodiversity of the largest park in Mumbai. The train stopped running in 2001 for maintenance reasons but resumed in 2004. In the summer of 2015, there was a period of three months when the rides were closed, which made people unhappy. However, the rides started again in July 2015.

The toy train that runs every half hour in the morning and afternoon covers routes with three major attractions. One of them is the Deer park, where you might be lucky enough to see a group of deer running and relaxing in the green open area. The route also includes tunnels and mini bridges to enjoy, as well as the Memorial location of the late Shree Mahatma Gandhi. This train is designed for joyrides inside the park and has four small ladders on each side for easy climbing for kids and elderly people.

It is open from all sides but has a roof shade to protect from the sun, rain, and falling branches. Not only is it a popular tourist attractions, but it has also been chosen as a filming location for Hindi films (Bollywood). Some famous movie songs, like ‘Humko Tumse Hogaya Hai Pyaar Kya Kare’ from the movie Amar Akbar Anthony released on January 7, 1977, and ‘Jawani Ki Rail Gadi’ from the movie Coolie released on November 14, 1983, both starring Amitabh Bachchan, were shot on this Vanrani train when it was painted yellow.
