Roaring Adventure: Tiger Lion and Leopard Safari at Borivali National Park

Reopened in January 2024, Discover a brand new realm of wildlife safari adventure at the renowned Sanjay Gandhi National Park in Borivali. Although the Leopard safari is still in the works, visitors can now relish the revitalized 20-hectare (50-acre) tiger safari, which had been closed since 2016. Additionally, plans are underway to expand the current 12-hectare (approximately 29-acre) Lion’s safari to a sprawling 20 acres.

SGNP, also known as Borivali National Park, is a vast green forest area in Mumbai. This expansive green belt stretches along the Western Express Highway, encompassing three nearby stations: Kandivali, Malad, and Goregaon. Within the park, you’ll find two significant sources of drinking water: Tulsi Lake and Vihar lake. Additionally, Mumbai’s renowned Bollywood attraction, Filmcity, is located here.

There are 5 tigers in Borivali National Park. Before the closure in 2016, only 2 white tigers were brought from Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar zoo. The recently opened safari now houses 2 male tigers and 4 to 5 female tigers. The males are called Bajirao and Bajrang, while the females are named Srivalli, Durga, Lakshmi, and Bijali.

Experience a unique Safari tour aboard a secure 30-seater mini electric bus that will transport you to the newly established Tiger safari zone within the jungle. This exclusive zone was inaugurated in 2024 after a prolonged anticipation. The mini adventure jungle safari promises an unforgettable experience. Unlike Mumbai zoo, this is the only one of its kind in the city. With a fenced and limited 20-hectare area, you are guaranteed to witness tigers in their natural habitat.

Excitingly, the Lion safari is set to expand from its current 12-hectare area to a brand new 20-hectare space, providing ample room for the jungle kings to roam and breed. This expansion not only benefits the lions’ well-being but also offers a captivating experience for tourists and local citizens visiting the national park.

Leopard safari zones may soon be introduced, following the footsteps of Lion and Tiger safaris. The population of leopards at Borivali National Park is promising, making it a great opportunity to observe them freely in a dedicated fenced area. Let’s hope the necessary permissions are granted for this exciting leopard safari experience.

With all 3 wildlife safari tours running smoothly, the National park is poised to draw a large crowd and become a major success. Accessing the park is incredibly convenient, being just a 10-minute distance from Borivali railway station. The park already sees a significant number of visitors, who come for activities like daily jogging, exploring Kanhari caves, riding the Mini train, and more. The affordable entry ticket rates and reasonable vehicle parking fees make it an attractive destination for locals.

Safari Timings: 30 Minutes Mini Bus Ride Operates between 9:00 am to 12:30 pm, 2:00 pm to 4:30 pm.
Ticket Fees: Rs.113 for Adults. Rs.45 for Children.
