A gift to citizens after about 2 years of lockdown.
Let us explore more about what to expect from this viewing point located at Dadar West. Details like Scenic attractions, Seating arrangements, How to reach, What and What Not to do here, Photo Gallery, Entry Fees (If Any), and more places to visit around.”
The Idea of Dadar Beach Viewing Deck
Minister of Maharashtra Tourism, Shri ‘Aaditya Uddhav Thackeray’ inaugurated Mumbai’s first view deck on 20th February 2022, and was open to the public with no entry fees to the public. The idea and concept took place during the lockdown year 2020 and were immediately liked and given clearance by our Tourism minister, Which was executed by BMC (The governing body of Mumbai city) in March 2021.
Of course, a new tourist destination, a selfie point for youth, and a place of leisure for locals and other Mumbaikars around, The idea was to create a coastal viewpoint and to coverup & use the SWD ‘Storm Water Drain outlet adjacent to Dadar Chowpatty, Exactly ahead of Chaityabhoomi Main Gate.
Prior to this, People use to sit on the uneven rocks above SWD for a little break from the hustle-bustle, enjoy the fresh breeze, and also enjoy that unhindered view of the beautiful & mega Bandra Worli Sealink bridge and Chowpatty was the only place then.
Mumbai is blessed and surrounded by the Arabian Sea from all 3 sides and there are so many beachfront & coastal around & inside the city, suburban and at far north locations of Vasai Virar area. Most & many coastlines have a Stormwater drainage system outlet that connects the seawater.
40 such identified SWD outfalls within the city are now planned to get such pillar elevated Viewing gallery for the public at a cost as low as Rs.6 Crores which is the amount spent on Dadar Chowpatty Deck.
View Deck Highlights
Chaityabhoomi is the Cremation site of ‘B. R. Ambedkar’ also called Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar, Former Minister of Law and Justice of India died on 6 December 1956 in Delhi. The proposed name for this new attraction of Mumbai is ‘Mata Ramabai Ambedkar Smruti Viewing Deck’.
With NO ENTRY CHARGES, this is a day & late evening attraction, Public Entry Timings are 9:00 Am to 10:00 Pm. It is a 10,000 square feet area, A square-shaped viewing deck with high-quality Stainless Steel fencing. The fencing is ‘Children Safe’, Which means, Parents can be sure of kids’ safety while they themselves enjoy the place. At the entrance is a Police station which adds up to safety.
The plan is well executed considering elderly & senior citizens people too. The elevated flat area is ‘Wheelchair Friendly’ and is easy to climb for kids and others.
This Square shape main deck area is standing 10 feet above the sea for high tide safety and is elevated on 26 pillars. With ample bright LED lights on all sides, it makes itself a viewing attraction. There is no roof shade, so I believe the summer afternoons may attract a low crowd and also may affect the potted plants inside which I am sure will be taken care of. Although since day one, mornings & evenings are very pleasant here and are most visited. I will confirm on timings, Still, 6:00 Am to 7:00 Pm is considered regular.
26 flat rectangular and round shape seating arrangements of beautiful looking & comfortable benches are made with a total capacity of 300 people on deck. The arrangements of this seating area are well-planned around the potted plants.
Exclusive large-size pots with palm tree alike plants can be seen near the seating area, I personally loved those Beautiful Egg shape white pots. As per the news, about 130 varieties of plants are potted on this deck.
Main Attractions
- Climb up on the deck area and fall in love with the Unhindered view of the Arabian Sea & the giant Sealink connecting the south at Worli Fishing Village and the North at Bandra Reclamation that connects National Highway 48.
- I would recommend the authorities to install binoculars for the public to enjoy the sea link view, Bandra Bandstand Fort, The beautiful structure of Hotel Taj & Other skylines along the Reclamation promenade.
- Although Dadar Chowpatty is adjacent and at a few feet distance, The view of this beach from the Deck area is really nice. The Entry structure view of BAPS Swami Narayan Ganesh Dwar was never seen like this before.
- Adjacent view of Hinduja Hospital beachfront, Mahim Fort, and the new Uplifted Mahim beach is a must, So carry a binocular if you have one. The possibility of having another view deck at the Hinduja Hospital seashore area is also very high.
